Graduate opportunities exist within our Residue Analysis, Ecotoxicology and Product Chemistry team in Chelmsford, Essex. Our highly regarded team work in modern, well equipped laboratories developing complex analytical methods in support of our field residue and stability studies using LC-MS/MS or GC/MS chromatographic techniques.

You will ideally be qualified to BSc level or higher in Chemistry, Environmental Science, Forensic and Analytical Science, or a similar scientific subject.

Core responsibilities of the role

  • Develop, optimize and validate analytical methods which will provide the sensitivity and robustness needed for analysis of a wide range of sample matrices.
  • Develop skills in the use of modern and highly automated chromatographic techniques such as LC-MS/MS and GC/MS in a Good Laboratory Practice compliant facility.
  • Homogenise, extract, clean-up and analyse crop and soil samples to determine the levels of residual pesticides.
  • Assist in a variety of project work with colleagues and across analytical teams.
  • Review analytical and laboratory data within the team for accuracy, completeness and compliance following documented procedures.

Full training will be provided to allow you to successfully

  • Follow and perform sample preparation, laboratory techniques, extraction equipment and extraction methodologies.
  • Analyse samples by namely LC-MS/MS or GC/MS allowing you to have a complete understanding of the technique and to troubleshoot complex methodology issues.
  • Use software packages to process analytical data and summarise in results tables and graphs to evaluate any data or stability trends.
  • Draft study reports where the analytical results are presented, summarised and data conclusions made.
  • Fully conduct studies to GLP standards as well as to regulatory guidance documents
